World Traveler

I am a little bummed...I can't figure out how to put up pictures on this thing! I will sort it out! It's hard to believe I have been here for almost 2 months. I am pleased to report that we have gotten rid of the ants...well for the most part. Just when you think they are gone you discover that the slightest opportunity for them to appear they will. I woke up last weekend and had not sealed one of my containers all the way only to find our little friends dropping by again! I often wonder why God made them haha!  I saw a blue tongue lizard the other day. I have to say it freaked me out a little because it looked like a snake with legs...and I don't do well with snakes:) So of course once the little kid clued into that he chased me around with it...yeah so not cool!

I got a really cool job here that allows me to teach cheerleading camps in various places. I flew to Perth (west coast) last weekend and worked with a school. It was so much fun.  The West Coast has a lot of desert and a lot less people. I wish I would have had a bit more time to go see some of the rock formations or the beaches, but it was cool to just be there.  However, I did have dinner on the water and watched the sun set over the Indian Ocean with my feet in the water. It was my first time in the Indian Ocean and let me tell you it was so beautiful. I think the only ocean left for me to visit is that really cold one...Artcic Ocean?? Not sure I will venture up that way to do it haha! I do have some big plans though to visit some other places here and a few other countries while I am halfway around the world...we will see!

I often think about everyone at home and I miss you. I truly feel like I am flourishing here. It's hard to explain all that is taking place inside of me but I am well-so well. Some days I forget I live in Australia...it is just so amazing.

Welcome to the Ant Farm...I mean Australia

I have been meaning to start a blog for since I got to Australia about 5 1/2 weeks ago, but with no internet at my house and dropping wifi signals this is the first opportunity I have had to sit down and get it going. I am loving Australia and still can't believe I am here...not sure that part ever goes away. School is amazing and I absolutely love what I am doing here. To be honest, the culture is not too drastic from the States. It feels a bit like Southern California here.  I am about 16 hours ahead of everyone at home and so I would like to think of myself as a psychic since I am living in the future.

There are a few things I've had to adjust to like looking the other way when I cross the street since they drive on the opposite side (I've been nearly hit numerous times-the drivers here are not friendly). They don't use Fahrenheit here. When I arrived it was what I would guess to be about 100 degrees but I would hear statements like "It's going to be a hot one today-near 40 degrees." I have been practicing using Celsius but I suppose it's a mental thing....I don't ever think 40 degrees will sound hot in my head. However, the last few weeks of summer (yes in February) have been in the 70's and 80's. Not too bad. We don't have a clothes dryer at our house so laundry is quite fun mostly because I believe our washing machine was possessed by the devil before we got it. I hang all my stuff out to dry and nothing yet has taken the crunch out of how my clothes feel haha!

One of the weirdest things here are these obnoxious birds that sound like a monkey and a crying baby mixed into one. They are so loud-often early in the morning. We have had lots of friendly visitors at our house. The ant farm has relocated to our house and they all have brought every ant they know to hang out. I would venture to say that there are thousands in our house right now. I feel like I am loosing WWIII. We did have a rat not long ago grace us with his presence. It was quite comical. The video of us trying to kill it is on my Facebook page. We did have a giant spider hang out for a while as well. I went to see the kualas (not kuala bear) and fed a kangaroo. It was such a cool experience.

The people are so kind and friendly. Everyone is quite accommodating and laid back. I love the culture and the fashion here. I have been to see the Opera House, Manly Beach, Bondi Beach, and the Central Coast. I have a long list still of things I want to see but waiting to get some more money as the cost of living is so expensive here. It costs nearly double for what we would pay in the States.  It isn't going to stop me from getting out and traveling.

We are supposed to have internet at our house this week so hopefully I will have more posts son and some cool pics!
